Welcome to St Joseph's Catholic School
Headteacher’s Welcome

A warm welcome to our school.

In our Catholic school we recognise that our pupils are made in God’s image and we celebrate the uniqueness of everyone, encouraging all members of our community to live fully and act justly.

The school is situated close to Durham city and serves families from a rich variety of backgrounds. We provide a welcoming, nurturing and safe learning environment in which the talents of all pupils and staff are recognised and developed to the full.

Our school is a happy, thriving primary school for children aged 3-11 years. There are approximately 115 children on roll within five classes. In addition to our well qualified and aspirational teaching staff we have a number of excellent learning support assistants who work across the school supporting and enhancing children’s learning.

As a school community, we provide an excellent education for all our pupils within a caring, stimulating and motivational learning environment. The school is calm and ordered and there is a culture of mutual respect.

The staff, governors and parents work in close partnership with support from the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and the local church of St. Joseph’s in the Parish of the Durham Martyrs. As a Roman Catholic school, our ethos is built upon Christian values and the teachings of Christ, which underpin all areas of school life.

Success and community are celebrated through a calendar of shared events which include masses and liturgies, information evenings, performances and sporting events. Pupils are supported to develop confidence and are thrilled to share their accomplishments with their families and the wider community.

“The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. The school’s vision and Catholic ethos, encapsulated in the motto ‘Live Fully, Act Justly’, remains very much in place. The staff continue to be a close-knit and a mutually supportive team who have the pupils’ best interests at heart.” (Ofsted July 2018)

We warmly welcome visits to the school. Please contact the school office to make an appointment if you would like to come and look around.

Yours sincerely,

Miss K Haggart
